With Metropolitan Opera General Manager Joseph Volpe

While composing and conducting are his two areas of interest, Robert Manno made his career as a singer, first as a soloist, then as a member of the New York City Opera Chorus and following that, as a member of the Metropolitan Opera Chorus from 1977 to his retirement from singing in 2001.

It was at the Metropolitan Opera that he met his wife, violinist Magdalena Golczewski.

During his tenure in both opera houses he was also quite active in contract negotiations.

At the MET he also served as the Chorus Committee Chairman for nine years, covering over three contractual negotiations.

Much of that time was spent in negotiation with Metropolitan Opera General Manager Joseph Volpe.

This photo with Mr. Volpe was taken at the 2001 MET Chorus Retirement Party. Manno returned to the MET in the Spring of 2002 when he was engaged as an assistant conductor on the MET Music Staff.
